Peter_E_Toughness

Here is a rough draft of the narrative that I'm writing off the top of my head....

Having Power and Toughness encompasses our daily lives, but not as much as Red Hook, Brooklyn. Since the Dutch claimed what is now Brooklyn in the early 1600's, the power grew and owning this land was in valuable interest. It did not take long before the mother land bullied the Dutch out and gained possession of this land. Not just once did a country get taken out for this possession, but during the revolutionary war, the colonials killed off the British at the battle of Long Island. This battle for power might have set off for what is now a rough area. With the building up Red Hook came the docks. Known as a very blue collar area, the ports were full of workers with a stereotype; rough lives and uncivilized thought. This toughness then carried over into the 20th century where the mafia started to grow and take control of certain areas. Red Hook is known for the site of Al Capone's slash to to face. While making an advance on his friend's sister, he got in a fight and was slashed in the face my a knife. The mafia had a huge impact on New York. Drugs, violence, and greed took many lives and made places such as Red Hook a sketchy place to live. The mafia led to the movement of gang violence. Government funded housing projects brought poor people to the area and caused even more problems. Gangs have been on the rise and roam the projects causing mischief. This has brought insight to the rise of power and toughness in Red Hook Brooklyn.

I know this is written poorly but it's just an initial thought.
Let me know what you guys think!!

  1. Looks good pete - there is no wrong way to tell a narrative - but what might be the images or video, that might help represent your ideas?

  2. the idea is to strengthen relationships through spatial organization - and simply placing things (text and image) next to one another.
