Growing neuron contd

This is one of the videos i looked at to see the growth of a neuron, you can see that it is in fact linear which would cause my layout to be linear. I leaning toward the more abstract floor plan, im going to develop in section. Owen, as far as the floor plan showing the relationships, i agree, the more abstract one looks like the diagram i made to show relationships to the neighborhood. Heres a quick reference to the abstract. Red-circulation Blue-Interior/Exhibition space Black-Voided out space

  1. looks good - though, you need to be moving from the ABSTRACT to the SPECIFIC.

what are your programmatic elements (bathrooms/theater/exhibition space...etc)

How big do these spaces need to be?

How do these different space RELATE to each other. a hierarchy of volumes/pathways need to develop. and this cannot happen until you get SPECIFIC.

  2. is blue the spaces?
    and
    red the circulation?

    what is the black?

  3. i know it might be kind of out there and would be ridiculous to build but if the spaces actually moved and shifted and created the circulation itself without plain old "walkways" that might strengthen your argument for the neuron design...

  4. I think this diagram is very helpful in understanding the idea.

I disagree with Pete (sorry dude!) about the moving/shifting spaces. The whole idea of neurons is this web of neural pathways... which is what you need to create both in plan and elevation. Try taking your diagram and replicating it on top of itself and then rotating the copy 90 degrees so you have both horizontal and vertical space...

    Think neural web!

  5. Also, and I'm not sure if this helps or if you wanna go this way but thought I'd throw this out there....

Diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis cause the body's own immune system to attack its neurons and damage them, blocking the pathways between neurons and causing decreased motor skills and brain functions. I believe certain drugs do the same thing to the brain as well. The interesting thing about the human body is that with the right treatment (and sometimes all on its own) the brain can figure out ways to bypass these damaged pathways and still function correctly.

Thought this might be interesting in relation to your project.
