OUTCAST

This is just some rambling thoughts that may not makw sense to yopu but it is the start of my thought process, I will try and post again later when these thoughts become more clear, there is something here though......THE CLINT EASTWOOD MUSEUM. (Still having major problems as to actual presentation media or format but things seem to be sorting themselves out slowly, just hope I dont run out of time. I wish I was more proficient with video / photo type programs)

well, Ive watched a good number of Clint Eastwood movies this weekend in my quest to relate the actor, or more precisely his characters, to the grain terminal building. As far as scale the terminal itself seems even larger than it is due to its location among releatively smaller structures and the open background of the water. It is imposing not only in size but in its eerily strange aura. Similarly it can be viewed that most of the characters Eastwood portrayed were larger than life with regard to being judgmental of right and wrong, when one met his characters the result was likely a final verdict with Eastwood being the judge as well as the jury. Facing down the man with no name was always met with the sudden realization of what a grave mistake it was to challenge him or even to think anyone was his equal. Also touching on scale was another side of many of his characters being that of an everyman with stong traditional values with no gray areas, only right and wrong. It was as though he thought like many people with the difference being he acted upon it. This no nonsense aura set him apart from common men. These types of roles were a constant thoughout his career from the spaghetti western character 'the man with no name' or Blondie to the pale riders preacher and Dirty Harry, Eastwood portrayed men that carried themselves with quiet confidence and illicited uncompromised fear of reckoming from wrong doers or those who wronged his character. In the same sense the terminal is also imposing as it is certainly large, but also its aura is that no one seems to be able make sense of it or understand it, it stands alone with no one daring to challenge it. It seems to scare people and it may just be misunderstood. The building is an outcast as it really has no current purpose and is likely a structure that many who dont understand, or those who are closed minded, wish would just vanish. The terminal never seemed to fit in even though its initial intent was well intended. This too is like many CE characters in that his roles never look for trouble, or never seek to help the innocent yet both inevitably find him and force him to action typically to right a wrong, again a type of person who doesnt stand by but a person who solves a problem. The terminal didnt ask to be built but it was, maybe its true purpose is now in that the terminal can solve a problem and help the inocent by becoming something more by becoming a focal point of the community. Maybe Red Hook needs a building to stand up for it and force people to take action and embrace what is right with the community. Maybe the structure can serve to prompt people to act on what many are likely thinking every day. Action may right a few wrongs that have been set upon Red Hook. It will take a big building to stand up for the community and maybe the terminal is just the one to do it.
