Made In "Sweatshops"

No, not "made in china" or "made in Taiwan". Sweatshops around the world do the big corporations "dirty work" and destroy the value of lives. It is a type of slavery that isn't talked about as much but is part of our daily lives. Most Americans live with there blinders on and are separated from what is going on in the rest of the world. Low wages, abuse, bondage, and harassment create an environment of hell for those who live and breathe making goods for Americans. Are malls and grocery stores are filled with products of mass production that is given to the labor of the unvalued in society. One of the largest contributors to this problem is known to be Nike. They contract out factories to build sneakers at very low wages and run foreigners into poverty. Although sometimes valued as a good thing for the jobs crated, the working conditions are unacceptable and really unlivable. In 1999 it was reported that Indonesian workers were receiving a profit of only 26 US dollars a month. As terrible as this sounds nothing has been done and America lives is shopping addicted lives to please themselves without care. This kind of materialism has created a monster in heartless America. Pop culture invites it, music invites it, almost all of US entertainment suggests it.

RELATIONSHIPS

SCALE- Grain Terminal To Human
VALUE- Nike Air Yeezy To New Balance
WEALTH- Nike To Sweatshops or Ikea To Red Hook
SEPARATION- BQE To American Greed

Let me know how you guys feels about this idea?

  1. Hmmm, it's kind of like sneakers have become the new blood diamonds... following that logic, you are a warlord, Pete!! J/k but seriously, it is definitely an interesting thought... I'm not really sure how the relationship is made between the grain terminal and the sweatshops though, are you still investigating that?

  2. Well The idea that the grain terminal sits on a port which would be a source of shipment of goods, which in sense relates to the sweatshops...im researching that more but that my initial thought.

  4. I really like your thoughts. Not many people realise how bad sweatshops are, or how much they impact society.
