SPECIFIC NOTES ON PRESENTATION

this will be edited and added to later so check back, but I thought it would be a good idea to get at least the main points out there.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The presentations will proceed on a rigorous time schedule.

each presentation will be EXACTLY 6:40. There will be a 2 Minute time interval to transition from one presentation to the next.

The presentations will be grouped into 4's - so hopefully, 4 groups of 4.

in between each group of 4 there will be a discussion period of EXACTLY 20 minutes.

So there is an OBVIOUS need to test EVERYTHING ahead of time. so that everything runs smoothly. there is a very specific desire to create a TEMPO for the evening that is DESIGNED to keep the jury (and everyone else) alert and interested. This is DESIGNED to get the best feedback possible.

In order to GROUP the presentations, I would like for MONDAY a single sentence, and a single image. In addition to serving as a grouping mechanism, these will also be placed pamphlet that will be handed out.

  1. I do not understand the objective of doing 4 presentations before getting feedback. If we do presentations and feedback on a one to one schedule, it will still be the same amount of time. Presentating in groups can take away the focus off of one individual and place it on another in a group. As a student, I want what I paid for. Also, jurors sometimes make connections that maybe shouldn't exist between two projects just because they were back to back. The critic is to evaluate an individual's presentation, not clusters of students as a whole. I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way...

  2. I agree with you.. I feel like other than maybe a few projects, everyone's ideas are so different that it is going to be confusing for other people to be able to remember everything about everybody's projects. I think grouping them in 4's is not the best approach to this.

  3. I agree wholeheartedly. I think that grouping projects together for crit can only harm the process of receiving critique. Regardless of how the presentations are laid out, it will still take the same amount of time for everyone to present. I know that myself, along with the majority of the class, was very unhappy after having to present our first project in pairs. We felt that we did not receive the same time and consideration because jurors often forgot our projects and our presentation while the 2nd person presented. With four to a group you are only exponentially guaranteeing that such injustice will be done to our projects. We should be presenting one by one. It is only fair. THis is about INDIVIDUAL evaluation first and foremost. We did not design in groups therefore we should not present as such!
